June 6, Sunday: Back to the Basics

First of all I have to apologize for the long time in between blogs. I have received several emails asking where I have been. I did take a month long break from Positive Choice Wellness Center and I feel that this was necessary to get revitalized. I am always talking about taking care of ourselves so this was a way to do that for myself.

I was able to spend a lot of time with my family and get back on my bike and start to put in some miles. I also took up running longer distances and have now completed 8 miles.

I am very honored to be providing Wellness Classes for the SeaWorld employees for the month of June. I have met several of the staff already and they are all wonderful. I am looking for to it.

So for my topic, "Back to the Basics": Well, I just can't help but think how important it is to be reminded of basics. I am talking about all aspects of life not just Nutrition. We need a daily reminder of keeping our posture correct throughout the day, drinking plenty of water, eating plenty of veggies and fruits, breathing correctly, lifting things correctly, saying "I love you" and so on and son.. These things should be second nature by now but they are not for so many of us. I enjoy a refresher class on meditation on occasion and I think that this is so simple, I mean just pay attention to the breathe, but life just takes me away some times.

I believe what is happening is that our society doesn't cater to healthy living so we have to be reminded. I mean if it was in our face all day to watch what we eat or better yet if we had only healthy choices to eat then it wouldn't be so difficult.

So I encourage all of you to get back to the basics now and again.. Take some refresher courses on First Aid, CPR, Eating healthy, Fitness, proper body mechanics, Relationship building, and more. It could be fun..

See ya next time..

February 17, Wednesday: Keeping your motivation Going..

Well it's now the middle of Feb and how many of you are still exercising and following a healthy meal plan? All of you, right? Unfortunately many of us who start at the first of the year with all the intention to keep up with our healthy lifestyle start to lose motivation.

So what is the key to maintaining motivation? Focus on the benefits.. Remember that you are doing this to improve your health, maintain or improve your energy, lose a few pounds, or just be able to enjoy your life..

I suggest getting with a support group or get a buddy to team up with.. You are always welcome to come visit me at Kaiser during ask the dietitian for a pep talk..

How about subscribing to health magazines? I think this is a great idea.. Get at least 2 or 3 different ones coming to your house monthly.. You can share them with friends or family when you are finished reading them.. I vote to have one of the magazines a healthy cooking magazine like Vegetarian Times.. or Cooking Light..

OK.. Keep up the great work.. you deserve it.. you are worth it!!

January 2010

January 25, Monday: Vince's Weekly Workout..

I've been working out and not able to get to my blog!! Now that's a good excuse.. So a few of my clients wanted me to post a weekly workout that I typically do.. Here ya go..

Monday, Wed, and Friday: total Body workout at the gym.. I stay around 10-12 reps for now but occasionally pump some heavier weights and only do 8 reps. I am a big fan of dumbell workouts so I typically stay with those weights. On these days I also sneak in 30 minutes of cardio either on the bike o or elliptical.

Tuesday: rest day..

Thursday and Sunday are my running days so I will typically run 3 - 4 miles on these days with stretching and yoga..

Saturday is a long workout day like a bike ride between 2-3 hours.. or maybe a long hike..

Of course I will change this up often to keep it interesting and fresh.. and when I have an event planned like a long bike ride or running event I will make changes accordingly..

Enjoy and stay well..

January 3, Sunday: Happy New Year and Welcome to a New Decade

Happy New Year to all of you! I am looking forward to a New Year and a New Decade. I have been away from cycling, running and blogging for several weeks but I started the new year with a 2 mile run and some cycling the last couple of days. It was a much needed break as it gave me time with my family. My son surprized us last night by walking all by himself. Check out this Video.

So what are my plans for this year? Of course continue to spend time with my family and continue my comittment to all of my clients and patients.

I want to complete several chapters of my meal planning book that I have already begun to write. I really feel that meal planning is so important to healthy living so I am very interested in learning as much as I can about how to make the process enjoyable and easy to implement and of course share it with all who are interested.

I want to start adding recipes to my website along with some cooking videos. I have been talking about this for a very long time so I am writing here in hopes to follow through with my promise.

I want to plan several fun athletic events this year like cycling from Orange county to San diego or running another half marathon. And if Athletes for the Quality of Life is up in running I want to do these events to promote a worthy cause. All of you are welcome to join in.

Any thoughts or ideas for my website just email me at vince@healthfitnessadvisor.com or just call me at 619-804-5043.
